Ben's Style - Summer 2011

Last week, Ben and I went to the library, and as I was unbuckling him from his car seat, I hear leaves rustling across the pavement and realized, “Summer is coming to an end”.  In May, I photographed Ben’s Style – Spring 2011 and was eager to do the same with his summer wardrobe.  Our summer passed quickly, especially August, so today I finally had the opportunity to photograph him in some of my favorite summer outfits.  By outfit number three, Ben was 100% done with this photo shoot.  He drove his little red car around, hoping I would get the hint, pack up my gear and take him home.

Ben has been wearing shorts almost every day since mid-May.  It wasn’t a particularly warm summer but he’s a hot kid.  I can probably count on one hand the number of times he wore pants in the last four months.  I love boys’ summer clothes.  Not only do I adore the designs and colors, boys’ shorts and shirts are so versatile and easy to mix and match.  We were trying out new combinations all summer long!

Without further adieu, here’s Ben is some of the summer clothes I’ll be sad to pack away in a few short weeks once the weather turns cold:

On Ben: Hoodie, Zara Baby. T-Shirt, Tea. Shorts, Nautica. Shoes, Dawgs.

On Ben: Shirt, Ben Sherman. Shorts, Baby Gap. Sandals, Joe Fresh.

On Ben: Polo, Tommy Hilfiger. T-Shirt, Roots. Shorts, Gymboree.

Part One: Camping at Elk Island National Park - Pictures

A week and a half ago, we spent 18 (exhausting) hours camping at Elk Island National Park.  I’m hoping to find a moment over the next few days to sit down and share our adventure.  In the meantime, here are a few pictures from our trip:

Peeking In

Our morning routine goes like this.  Ben wakes up.  Blurry eyed, I stubble to the kitchen to get him some milk.  I go into his room, we say our good mornings, I give him his bottle, open the blinds and stack a pile of books in his crib.  I tell him that I’m going to go have “more sleepy”.  I crawl back into bed.  This little morning routine usually buys me at least half an hour more rest.  Except sometimes, I don’t get back into bed.  Sometimes, I stand at the door, peek into the crack and marvel at my son and how absolutely beautiful and amazing he is.

Jasper National Park

We spent the last few days in Jasper National Park with my parents at Becker’s Chalets.  The first day we arrived we walked around town, did a little shopping and relaxed in our chalet.  My dad bought Ben a toy fire truck that kept him occupied when he wasn’t busy collecting rocks on our many walks.  He comes by it honestly; I love rocks.  When I was a child, I had buckets filled with my treasures in our garage.

Ben had an accident the first evening we arrived, flying off the biggest slide at the park. He scraped his chin and chipped his top front tooth.  Luckily, he’s one resilient little man.  Boris and I were more upset by his fall than he was.

We spent our second day in Jasper going on several walks (one of which was to Athabasca Falls) and celebrating my parents 38th wedding anniversary.  We ended our trip with a soak at the Miette Hot Springs before heading home.  In the span of two days we saw a coyote, a grey wolf, a black bear, a grizzly bear, a mule deer, an elk and tons of (very friendly) bighorn sheep.  I’ve never seen so much wildlife on the side of the highway in my life!  It was pretty incredible.  Other that Ben’s spectacular fall, we had a wonderful little getaway with lots of great stories and memories to share.

Jenny's Wedding Shower

This past weekend my sister, Jenny was in town to celebrate her upcoming wedding.  She had a small, intimate wedding shower on Saturday followed by her stagette.  Despite Jenny and Darren’s short visit, we had the opportunity to spend lots of time together.  The next time they’re in town (well...in Banff to be exact), they’ll be walking down the aisle!

Family Time

In order to soak up the last few weeks of summer and take full advantage of Boris’ time off I’ve decided to unplug from all my favorite blogs and social networking sites until life settles down after Labour Day.  Over the next few weeks, our calendar is booked solid; visits with family and friends, projects around the house and a few little getaways here and there.  I’ll try to post updates of our adventures and (hopefully) the progress on some of the projects we’d like to accomplish, but otherwise I’m taking a little break to enjoy some much needed family time.
