Ben, in Layers

A few weeks ago, I posted Kate in one of her fall outfits.  I thought it would only be fair to share one of Ben's as well.  When I first started blogging, I did a few posts called "Ben's Style" (here and here).  I love dressing my kids up and really enjoyed photographing Ben in my favourite outfits.  But as it turns out, it was a lot of work to keep up and I got pregnant shortly after shooting the second one (pregnancy and I don't mix very well for the first 18 to 20 weeks).  I made an attempt last summer (when Kate was only a couple months old) and ended up with some great character shots of Ben as a two year old.  Hopefully, I can get back to shooting Ben and Kate in some of the outfits I love...if anything they'll be great for a good laugh 20 years down the road!

Kate, in Layers

Fall is my favourite time of year.  I love everything about it, the coolness in the air, the beautiful colors on the trees, the leaves crunching beneath my feet.  But the best part...dressing in layers and layers of clothes!  I turned over Kate’s wardrobe when we got home from Hawaii and I’ve been having lots of fun putting together new combinations over the last few days.

Mix Tape - Bom Bom

Whenever the latest Joe Fresh commercial plays on TV Kate stops whatever she's doing and bounces up and down to this song.  It's super cute!

Ben's Style - Summer 2011

Last week, Ben and I went to the library, and as I was unbuckling him from his car seat, I hear leaves rustling across the pavement and realized, “Summer is coming to an end”.  In May, I photographed Ben’s Style – Spring 2011 and was eager to do the same with his summer wardrobe.  Our summer passed quickly, especially August, so today I finally had the opportunity to photograph him in some of my favorite summer outfits.  By outfit number three, Ben was 100% done with this photo shoot.  He drove his little red car around, hoping I would get the hint, pack up my gear and take him home.

Ben has been wearing shorts almost every day since mid-May.  It wasn’t a particularly warm summer but he’s a hot kid.  I can probably count on one hand the number of times he wore pants in the last four months.  I love boys’ summer clothes.  Not only do I adore the designs and colors, boys’ shorts and shirts are so versatile and easy to mix and match.  We were trying out new combinations all summer long!

Without further adieu, here’s Ben is some of the summer clothes I’ll be sad to pack away in a few short weeks once the weather turns cold:

On Ben: Hoodie, Zara Baby. T-Shirt, Tea. Shorts, Nautica. Shoes, Dawgs.

On Ben: Shirt, Ben Sherman. Shorts, Baby Gap. Sandals, Joe Fresh.

On Ben: Polo, Tommy Hilfiger. T-Shirt, Roots. Shorts, Gymboree.

Ben's Style - Spring 2011

Maybe I’m a bit of a minority, but I love dressing a boy.  I love “boy” colors, greys and blues and browns.  I love dress shirts and sweater vests and polos.  Before having Ben, I preferred shopping for Boris’ clothes over my own.  So, it was no surprise to me that when Ben came along I enjoyed filling his closet with all the beautiful clothing they make for little boys now days.  I buy almost everything for Ben on sale, a season in advance.  A shirt here, a pair of pants there, and then I pull it all together in the end.

This past weekend I turned over Ben’s wardrobe, swapping winter sweaters and jackets for summer shorts and t-shirts.  He’s outgrown most of his 12 – 18 month clothes, and since he’s been wearing most of it since September, I was excited to hang all of my new treasures.  Before packing everything away, I took Ben to the museum/government house (I know, a little clichéd) to photograph my favorites.
